1. Duplicate Poker to be accepted as member of IMSA
A new federation applied to become member of IMSA: the International Poker
Federation, IPF. At
first sight poker might seem to be gambling but the element of luck will
completely be eliminated in
Duplicate Poker where different teams of players will get the same sets
of cards like in duplicate
bridge. In the IMSA meeting in Dubai in April the IMSA board decided that
IPF will be a
provisional member of IMSA, that they will apply for membership of SportAccord
and when
accepted next year, they will automatically become a full member of IMSA.
IPF has come with
suggestions and contracts to strengthen the financial position of IMSA.
2. Sport Accord Mind Games in Nanjing China,
SportAccord President Hein Verbruggen has been very active to organize SportAccord
Mind Games
and he has found a sponsor city for this: Nanjing, the former capital of
Southern China. It will take
place in September 2011. The event will be much smaller than the WMSG in
Beijing. It is the
intention that the very best players of the world will play. In total there
can be 240-250 participants
and about 100 people such as arbiters and technicians. Draughts can have
a total of approximately 30
people including referees and technical assistants and there is only place
for international draughts at
100 squares. We need to be attractive to the media and we will play with
a new set up. In each round
there will be a winner in each game by playing a normal game, rapid and/or
blitz and a Lehmann-
Georgiev tie break.
A number of World cup tournaments will be organized, or existing tournaments
will receive World
Cup status, in which the players can qualify for this Sport Accord Mind
Games.
For the players the tournament will be intensive but the finances are very
attractive. Air tickets, food
and lodging will be paid by the organization and FMJD receives an amount
for appearance fees ,
prize money, arbiters and technical necessities such as electronic board.
The prize money for the
players will be more attractive as the prize money in the World Championship.
3. World Mind Sports Games 2012 / 2013
IMSA is looking at possibilities in Manchester in 2012 or 2013. With Rio
de Janeiro already
showing interest to host WMSG in 2016 the FMJD has stated that 2012 were
to be preferred but we
are also dependent on the other federations that have calendars that may
conflict with an event in
2012. Duplicate Poker sponsor West Nally already promised to be capable
to find considerable
sponsorship for the WMSG with Duplicate Poker involved. It will become clear
in the coming
months when exactly the next WMSG will take place..

4. World Championships international draughts 2010.
FMJD president Harry Otten has been to Brazil in February. The tournament
is planned to be held
in Sao Paulo and not in Rio, but still in the aquarium. Harry Otten spoke
with officials from the
government. He has asked for certainties which seem difficult to be given
in Brazil.
Just before the meeting a more detailed report was received from Lelio Marcos.
Mr. Marcos organizes the 64 Brazil Championship from June 2-9 in an historic
building in the town,
which is good organized with large prize money; Mr. Marcos expects he will
be able to extract the
confidence and the consent of the local governments so that they can organize
the world
championships there.
The necessary guarantees that were asked in February before May 31 will
not be realized at that
date.

5. World Championship international draughts 2011
The preparations are going well and there is regular contact between the
organizing committee and
the executive board of the FMJD. The FMJD has already received copies of
contracts with the
sponsors and the organizing committee will give financial guarantees to
the FMJD.
6. Open challenge for title match international draughts
At the General Assembly of 2011 the Executive Board of the FMJD will present
a proposal for an
open challenge for a World Title match. First the challenger will have right
to challenge the World
Champion but also other top players will get the possibility to challenge
the world Champion if they
can find sponsoring for a good prize money for the World Champion.
7. World Championship 2013
The president of Gambia has given his approval that the World Championship
2013 can be
organized in Gambia.
8. World Championship cadets also boys and Girls
The Mongolian federation proposes to organize the world Championship youth,
juniors and cadets,
in 2011 and has asked for the option to organize the world championship
cadets for boys and for
girls. The Executive Board welcomes this proposal to have a separate world
championship for boys
and girls not only for juniors but also for cadets.
9. News from the EDC
The European Draughts Confederation has found the possibility to organize
the European
Championship in Poland from August 24 to September 1, 2010. It will be an
open European
Championship with Swiss system. For every federation there is one player
free of costs for hotel
and meals. Also the European champion Valneris and the first 4 players from
the Viking Cup 2009
are free of hospitality costs.
